Dr. Henry Teaches Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression Livestream

January 29, 2023

Dr. Luke Henry speaking at Parker University in Dallas, Texas 2019. Henry is an alumnus of Clemson University Computer Engineering with a minor in Mathematics.

Due to recent nationwide flight delays, Dr. Henry’s Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression seminar January 28, 2023 was changed from live in Chicago, Illinois to livestream. While disappointed at not being able to interact with colleagues in person, Dr. Henry wishes to thank the chiropractic physicians from Ohio, Indiana, South Carolina, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Tennessee, and Illinois for attending his 12-hour continuing education lecture.

While traction has been used to treat spinal disorders since antiquity, nonsurgical spinal decompression uses computer technology to gently lower pressure inside the spinal discs and relieve pressure on the delicate nerves. This novel physiotherapeutic procedure is performed using FDA cleared medical devices. Decompression initially was plagued with controversy, due to unscrupulous marketing but today it is supported by a growing body of scientific evidence and is becoming an established procedure taught at several chiropractic colleges. Indications include bulging discs, herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, facet syndrome, sciatica, neck pain, and back pain. Many chronic pain sufferers are looking for an answer and wish to avoid pain medications, injections and surgery. Dr. Henry brought IDD Therapy to Greenville in 2012 and has developed a multifaceted treatment approach incorporating hands-on treatments, rehabilitation exercises, and low-level laser therapy. This evidence-based approach helps to significantly reduce chronic pain for most patients and is also appropriate for acute injury from auto accidents, work and sports injuries. While temporary soreness is possible, the treatment is very safe and gentle. Dr. Henry has served as a postgraduate lecturer for three chiropractic colleges and is a member of the South Carolina Chiropractic Association. His 2017 study on spinal decompression has been cited by researchers internationally. Henry gave seven lectures throughout the United States last year in association with Fetterman Events and National University of Health Sciences.

Doctors of chiropractic wishing to learn more about this procedure may register for one of Dr. Henry’s upcoming classes, with lectures planned for Raleigh, Asheville, Greenville, Knoxville, Florence, Dothan, and Atlanta in 2023. The Chicago program may be rescheduled, depending on air travel difficulties.

Dr. Henry practices at Henry Chiropractic Clinic, LLC at 1314 Pelham Road in Greenville, South Carolina, with a practice emphasis on acute and chronic back and neck pain.

Dr. Henry Teaches Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression to Chiropractors Across the United States

October 4, 2022

Dr. Henry addresses a full class of chiropractors in Nashville, TN with a 12 hour continuing education lecture on Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression.

Dr. Luke Henry wishes to thank his staff, Fetterman Events, and the 75 chiropractic physicians from Tennessee, Kentucky and Alabama that attended his Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression continuing education class in Nashville, Saturday, September 10, 2022. Henry stated, “My goal is to bring doctors of chiropractic more clinical and professional success for the benefit of the thousands of pain sufferers they serve. I’m thrilled that my class was full and look forward to future lectures.” Non-surgical spinal decompression is a relatively new, non-invasive procedure that helps to significantly reduce or, in some cases, to eliminate chronic back pain or neck pain. Indications include bulging discs, herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, facet syndrome, sciatica, neck pain, and back pain. The addition of computer technology to spinal distraction techniques gently lowers the pressure inside the discs in the spine to reduce disc protrusions and alleviate nerve compression without the risks associated with drugs or surgery. Dr. Henry teaches decompression as part of a multimodal treatment approach, which may also include therapeutic exercises, spinal adjustments / manipulation, myofascial release, and cold laser (AKA low-level laser therapy). He presented on the history of traction / decompression, evidence-based spine care, indications and contraindications, FDA medical device clearances, referral to other physicians when appropriate, outcomes assessment, diagnostic imaging (x-rays, MRI, and / or CT as is necessary), treatment protocols, risk management, a review of recent biomedical research and case studies. All of Dr. Henry’s classes have been approved for continuing education credit for doctors of chiropractic, either by state boards, FCLB PACE or through affiliation with National University of Health Sciences. Thus far in 2022, Henry has presented to DCs in Tennessee, Michigan, Delaware, Indiana, and South Carolina. Henry is an alumnus of Clemson University (Computer Engineering) and graduated at the top of his class from Sherman College of Chiropractic. He has authored peer-reviewed research on chiropractic, laser and non-surgical spinal decompression and is a reviewer for multiple scientific journals. Dr. Henry continues to practice full time and he is available to treat patients at Henry Chiropractic Clinic, LLC, 1314 Pelham Road, Greenville, SC 29615.

Future Classes in 2022:
10/22/2022 Non Surgical Spinal Decompression Lansing, Michigan
11/10/2022 Non Surgical Spinal Decompression Madison, Wisconsin

Dr. Henry will continue lecturing for Fetterman Events on decompression in cities throughout the United States in 2023, including Chicago, Raleigh, Atlanta, etc.

Greenville, SC, November 7-8, 2015 – Dr. Luke Henry, a Greenville chiropractor, traveled to Dallas, Texas to instruct at Parker University’s National Decompression Certificate Program. More than 50 chiropractic physicians and a number of chiropractic assistants from across the U.S. and Canada attended, making this the largest attendance to date since the program began in 2012.

According to the National Institutes of Health, back pain affects 80% of Americans with more than one quarter of adults experiencing low back pain during the last 3 months. Lower back pain is the leading cause of disability worldwide. In some cases, back pain persists despite medical treatments.

Spinal decompression is a new noninvasive method that relieves spinal pain without the cost or risk associated with back surgery. Decompression devices are FDA cleared, with computer technology that distracts a specific level of the spine without muscular contraction. Research has shown that decompression lowers pressure inside the discs into -100 to -150 mm Hg range. This negative pressure increases nutrition to allow healing, restores lost disc height, and frees up compressed or irritated nerves. Most patients receive 20-25 treatments over 6 to 8 weeks. Neurosurgeons Norman Shealy, M.D. and Dennis McClure, M.D. found success rates from 86% to 92% with no known serious adverse effects.

Dr. Henry, who is the author of peer-reviewed scientific publications, was invited to present and lectured on a multifaceted treatment protocol for bulging, herniated and degenerative discs that includes chiropractic adjustments, spinal decompression, and low-level laser therapy. He also served as examination proctor.

Dr. Henry, said, “Many patients have already tried medication, physical therapy, chiropractic, and injections but are still suffering. Our new nonsurgical approach brings relief and results”.

Greenville Chiropractor Authors New Nonsurgical Decompression Treatment for Herniated Discs

A new nonsurgical approach may offer the answer to back or leg pain from herniated discs without surgery. Dr. Luke Henry’s paper, “Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression Of Lumbar Disc Herniation: A Case Report And Proposed Multimodal Chiropractic Treatment Approach” has been published in the Internet Journal of Chiropractic, an open access, peer-reviewed research journal. The paper describes the nonsurgical care of a patient with a 16 mm lumbar disc herniation producing nerve compression. The patient’s lower back and leg pain, weakness and numbness resolved with a treatment plan combining chiropractic adjustments, spinal decompression and cold laser therapy. The patient was able to resume work after three visits and he experienced progressive improvement in his ability to sleep, stand and walk. Symptomatic and functional improvement was maintained at a 6 month follow up. Dr. Henry encouraged further research on this new noninvasive approach. Dr. Henry is a graduate of Clemson University and Sherman College of Chiropractic. He is a member of the South Carolina Chiropractic Association and practices in Greenville, South Carolina.
